Almost 90% of women develop stretch marks during pregnancy. Stretch marks appear during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy, mainly during the 3rd trimester. It can be explained as skin is subjected to higher levels of stretching forces. Of all the factors involved in stretch mark building, only one on which an individual can control is that of diet.

Study has been published claiming to test whether oils and creams prevent the development of stretch marks. Study found a daily application of a cream containing vitamin E, and collagen was associated with fewer stretch marks during pregnancy. Another study, examined a cream containing vitamin E, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, elastin and menthol. This also leads to same results.

Cocoa butter is an effective moisturizer. No studies have shown ability for stretch mark removal, or reducing ability for their appearance.

Laser treatments are available for the purpose of improving the appearance of existing stretch marks. Some products claim the good results on recent stretch marks; however, very few studies exist to hold these claims.

Tummy tuck is the term given to surgical procedure for removing lower abdominal stretch marks. In this fats below the skins is removed so that no further stress is there, hence preventing it to inculcate stretch marks.
